Healthy Kids Project Coordinator and Client Advocate
Healthy Kids is expanding Oregon's child health coverage options for working families. The Urban League’s Healthy Kids program will reach out to African Americans in North and NE Portland to increase awareness about the availability and eligibility for enrollment in the Oregon Health Plan. The Healthy Kids Project Coordinator and Client Advocate will help design and implement the Urban League’s outreach and enrollment program. S/he will work closely in a supervisory capacity with the Healthy Kids Case Manager to recruit, enroll, track progress and provide advice and support to families’ entry into the Oregon Health Plan.
The Project Coordinator and Client Advocate works with the staff in the Urban League’s Advocacy and Civic Engagement department to fulfill the contractual goals of an enrollment program specifically targeting the African American community. The incumbent works with community partners to identify underserved eligible families, help them navigate the healthcare system, negotiate with service providers, school health providers and other public service agencies to secure and expand OHP enrollment.
Responsibilities include: the development and distribution of outreach materials; establishment of off-site recruitment centers; establishing partnerships with schools, after-school programs, community clinics, local organizations and faith-based communities. S/he will be responsible for accurate entry of data into the agency database in a timely manner and for meeting all reporting requirements outlined in the program contract. The Client Advocate works collaboratively and communicates effectively with other community partners on behalf of the Urban League Healthy Kids enrollment program.
The incumbent will be stationed at the Urban League of Portland office but will travel throughout service area for meetings and outreach. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Please note this is a full time position available for 6 months only, with the potential to expand to a year-round program.
Salary: $13.00-$16.00/hr depending on experience.
Benefits available after 90 days.

Healthy Kids is expanding Oregon's child health coverage options for working families. The Urban League’s Healthy Kids program will reach out to African Americans in North and NE Portland to increase awareness about the availability and eligibility for enrollment in the Oregon Health Plan. The Healthy Kids Case Manager will encourage and help eligible families apply, and help shape the identity of the Urban League of Portland as a resource for case management and client advocacy.
The Healthy Kids Case Manager will work with the Healthy Kids Program Coordinator and Client Advocate, staff of Urban League of Portland’s Advocacy and Civic Engagement Department to provide high-quality, coordinated, strengths-based Case Management. The incumbent will provide advocacy with and on behalf of families to enroll children in Oregon Health Plan.
Additional responsibilities include: helping clients manage application paperwork in a timely fashion, entering data into the agency database in a timely and accurate manner, and connect families to additional complimentary services. The Healthy Kids Case Manager must work collaboratively and communicate effectively with community partners.

Community Organizer
Urban League Diversity and Civic Leadership Organizing Project
The Urban League is seeking a part-time, highly motivated and energetic Organizer to work with African American and other community residents to be more engaged in decision-making on such issues as City housing, community development and planning, employment and economic development policies as part of the League’s Diversity and Civic Leadership Organizing Project.
The Organizer is responsible for working with community residents to identify priority issues; identify and help develop community leaders; develop and implement outreach strategies, including community meetings and one on ones; develop and present training events and popular education workshops, develop materials to facilitate organizing; help create and maintain databases; facilitate meetings with city officials, neighborhood associations and coalitions.
Candidates must have volunteer or paid organizing experience; ability to conduct training and lead workshops; ability to gain trust and spark interest amongst community residents; work with tenants, homeowners, churches, diverse community organizations and political officers. Skills required include excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency at word processing, email, and web basics and a commitment to social and economic justice work which empowers communities.

Development and Administrative Volunteer Intern
The Urban League of Portland seeks a volunteer intern for a semester long engagement in the Development Department. The ideal candidate will have a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, flexibility and an interest in the mission of the Urban League of Portland. This internship offers experience in all aspects of nonprofit development work and administration and is an ideal for any student considering a career in nonprofits or development.
Responsibilities Include:
- Grant support including research and proofreading
- Minor updates to the Urban League of Portland Facebook page and the Urban League of Portland website
- Light design work for posters, brochures, and emails
- Filing with an emphasis on creating and maintaining donor files and histories
- Translation of donor histories from paper files into Raiser’s Edge donor software
- Gift entry and acknowledgement
- Raiser’s Edge database management and clean up
- Assistance with the annual career fair and other Urban League events
- General administrative tasks including, but not limited to: answering phones, running errands, and office organization.
In addition, the position requires use of the MS Office Suite and the internet. Experience with Raiser’s Edge Software and/or Adobe Contribute is a plus.
This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of at least 8 hours per week depending on the applicant’s availability. Scheduling is flexible but volunteer hours must fall between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

The Urban League of Portland seeks an innovative identity package to carry us into into our 65th year in Portland. Package may include: Business cards, letterhead, thank you notes, informational brochure(s), remittance envelopes and templates for our website, electronic news letter, and paper fliers. Package is negotiable based on the skills and availability of the selected designer.
Applicants should have a passion for the Urban League's mission and respect for the League's history in Portland. Staff, executive officers and board members will participate in the final decision making process, so professionalism and flexibility is a must.
